The Other Bangkok (1): Early Morning - A Photographic Essay

Thonburi side

While many people only see areas of Bangkok that are to the East of the Chao Phraya River, the other side has many sights of equal interest. These are perhaps not as spectacular as the tourist-centric areas, but have their own beauty nonetheless.

I have lived on the Thonburi side for many years and far prefer it, even if at times (like during the recent flooding) it seems as if it is part of a forgotten land.

I hope to be looking at this other Bangkok as part of an extended photographic essay that I have been planning for a while. To start the ball rolling, I had an early start today to capture some of the local atmosphere. Many of the images in this first look are of what I can see every day, although from the elevated position of my apartment.

Walking round and talking to the locals, I find them warm and welcoming. I have selected 15 images from the hundred or so I took and they are shown here. I welcome constructive comments. Please excuse the watermarks on the images: I am tired of having my images taken for use on other sites with zero acknowledgement. Each of them can be made available, full size, without the watermarking.
