Epson

Epson is a producer of several types of displays that are used in many industries and applications. For example, earlier this year, Epson announced a new version of its Umicron display with a resolution of some 2.36 millions dots in the 0.48" screen. This was one of the many of the small types of HPTS TFT LCD display that Epson had been developing for camera manufacturers.

Epson is a leader also in projection technology and today has announced that it has now shipped a total of 90 million high-temperature polysilicon ("HTPS") TFT liquid crystal panels for 3LCD projectors

Epson These projectors are widely used for home and business applications. Epson says that this figure represents the equivalent of more than 30 million projector units.

In the press release, Epson adds,

In recent times, applications for 3LCD projectors have expanded as advantages such as high brightness and contrast have been augmented with functions such as 3D and interactive capability. In the office, for example, projectors have become essential equipment for business presentations. In the home theater segment, they offer a compelling movie-viewing experience, while in the education segment projectors facilitate effective learning at school.

There is also considerable scope for the use of such projectors in business for lectures, art and entertainment. Epson has confidence that the demand for its display technologies will continue to grow.

For more information about such displays, Epson's pages on HTPS Technology will be of use. There is also information online about 3LCD technology which powers many such projectors.
